The restaurant and the bar at the Polish Cultural Center has closed for the summer. The summer break this year will last two months, through July and August. The Polish government’s National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) is announcing this year’s courses of Polish language and culture for students and teachers from abroad. The following Polish universities participate in this program: The University of Silesia in Katowice, which will organize an online course for students from August 1 to 22 2021 (detailed information may be found here: https://www.sjikp.us.edu.pl/en/summer-school-of-polish-language-literature-and-culture/) and an on-line course for the Polish language teachers at the same time, i.e. on August 1-22. Lani Phillips, who has been learning Polish Language at the University of Washington Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures for the last two years, has received the prize for the Best Student of Polish there. Roy “Wojtek” Koczarski, a long time active member of the Polish community, and notably the architect taking care of the Polish Home, died on April 26, 2021 of natural causes with his family by his side. Around 5:20 pm on April 7, 2021, there was a fire at the house adjacent to the Polish Home building from south, and unfortunately a life was lost. The elderly neighbor Michael Gross has perished and his body was found by the firefighters. He was 70 years old.
